Clin-e-cal Ltd, the University of Manchester spin-out digital health company, has announced a crowdfunding campaign to develop and scale-up their mission to help the world’s 500m asthma and COPD sufferers
With the goal of revolutionising respiratory care, the company has already raised over £60,000 on leading crowdfunding platform Crowdcube.
Clin-e-cal has developed two free smartphone apps to help improve the lives of people with asthma; Rafi-Tone, which helps children take their prescribed inhaler medication, and Clip-Tone, which helps adults monitor and improve their inhaler technique.
Both apps use Clin-e-cal’s unique SoundResponse® technology, which analyses sound signals from the inhaler device. The apps then provide real-time visual feedback to users on their inhalation technique, as well as tracking their adherence.
Clin-e-cal’s Chair and former Managing Director of EMIS, Stephen Wilcock, comments, “We all know someone who has asthma, and someone who has struggled with their inhaler technique, and Clin-e-cal has tapped into that unmet need with a truly innovative tech-based solution. With the expansion this crowdfunding will make possible, I believe that Clin-e-cal’s technology has the potential to significantly improve both inhaler technique and respiratory disease outcomes.”
Clin-e-cal’s Rafi-Tone app is featured in the NHS app library, and studies have found the app has had a marked positive effect on the lives of children with asthma.
