The University of Manchester Innovation Factory (“UoMIF”) is the University of Manchester’s subsidiary responsible for identifying and leading the commercialisation of its innovations and intellectual property.

The University of Manchester is committed to generating world-class innovation that will create major social and economic benefit across the globe. The UoMIF works with academic inventors from the University to identify opportunities that have the potential to create social and economic impact. It then translates these into a form where they can be used by industry and society as a whole. Access to innovations may be created via technology licensing or the formation of spin-out companies. The UoMIF aims to provide a world-class service to academic colleagues and to attract and engage with important external stakeholders including industry; entrepreneurs; licensors and investors; and corporate venture partners.

As part of our objective to become the world’s most effective University Technology Transfer organisation, we are currently looking to appoint a talented Software & Systems Manager.

We are searching for a diligent and creative Software and Systems Manager who will lead the development and implementation of the UoMIF’s IT applications and be the lead point of contact for all queries.

You will also be responsible for the security and privacy measures to reduce the risk around the business and strengthen areas that may be vulnerable to cyber-attacks using industry best practice.  To do this you are required to remain up to date ensuring the planning and management of work streams.

The Systems and Software Manager will undertake testing and implement new software, systems and platforms as well as overseeing updates, upgrades, migrations and outages.

Stakeholder management of all levels is key for this role, providing updates and support on all IT systems to maintain a consistently strong and effective workforce.  In addition, you will be expected to share expertise with the wider workforce to educate, enable and empower employees to self-diagnose and resolve minor issues they may be experiencing.

Reporting to the CEO on an interim basis, this role is expected to manage external suppliers of IT solutions, communicate to all staff in relation to any upcoming system/software changes and the effects they may have on the end user(s).

This is an exciting time to join the UoMIF as we strive to become the number one University Technology Transfer organisation, with a genuine opportunity to develop your skills and career within a globally respected organisation.
