Following a PhD in biomedical sciences at the University of Leeds, focusing on novel materials for joint replacements, Nic moved into the commercial world as National Account Manager for Bunzl Healthcare, and then as Sales Manager for UK surgical company DeSoutter Medical. In 2017, Nic made a return to the HE world as business development manager at The University of Manchester - initially in life sciences, and then as part of the BD team at the new £60m Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC).

At the GEIC Nic secured some significant new partners and investments into graphene innovations, led trade delegations internationally, and for a period led the composites theme of the €1bn Graphene Flagship programme.

In 2021, Nic moved to setup and lead the newly formed Consultancy Services team at the University, launching a new, fast operation to increase consultancy across the whole University of Manchester.

Nic is a Senior Investment and Licensing Manager within the Science and Engineering team, bringing a wealth of experience and a  track record of bringing together innovative companies with the most exciting research coming out of the University.

Nic's involvement
