The Innovation Academy is an umbrella initiative and joint venture between the University of Manchester Innovation Factory, the Masood Entrepreneurship Centre and the FSE Business Engagement and Innovation Team. The Innovation Academy is designed to bring together knowledge, expertise and routes to facilitate the commercialisation of research from the Faculty of Science and Engineering.  It will inspire and accelerate the translation of knowledge to provide benefit.

By working together, we will identify opportunities and facilitate entry into the innovation ecosystem at different entry points, as needed, and will establish a mentor network and an entrepreneurial community to help provide clear pathways to commercialisation. This will enable UoM’s PGR students, ECRs and academic staff get ready for success and equip then with the necessary skills and contacts to support any budding entrepreneur through their innovation journey.

 

FSE BUSINESS ENGAGEMENT & INNOVATION

The FSE Business Engagement Team supports a range of activities and can link organisations to relevant academic staff, research groups or research institutes, and providing ongoing relationship support.

This  team organises Innovation Labs each year bringing businesses and researchers together for a half day hands-on workshop to develop research projects in response to specific business challenges. Contact the team for more information.

MASOOD ENTREPRENEURSHIP CENTRE

Entrepreneurship is a major part of the University of Manchester’s overall innovation strategy with commitment at senior level to implementing the entrepreneurial agenda.

The Masood Entrepreneurship Centre (MEC) is a key part of the overall strategy providing a range of both formal and informal learning opportunities across the campus to stimulate the development of an entrepreneurial mind-set. Contact the team for more information.

Our core mission is to use this IP to create positive social and economic impact. The Innovation Factory works with academic and student inventors to identify research that has the potential to create value. It then translates these into a form where they can be used to benefit society as a whole.

Access to innovations may be created via technology licensing or the formation of new spin-out companies. The Innovation Factory aims to provide a world class service to academic colleagues as well as industry; entrepreneurs; licensees; VC & angel investors and corporate venturing partners.
